About the conference

What works.
What needs to change.

Business in Malta brings together the people who run, fund, advise and regulate Maltese businesses for a morning of frank conversation about the state of doing business on the island.

Government and opposition set out their positions, then panels of business leaders, support agencies, banks and employers test them against reality. The conversation centres on three questions:

  • How easy is it to do business in Malta today, and what should change?
  • Are business support schemes reaching the businesses that need them?
  • Can Maltese businesses access the funding and talent they need to grow?

Borg began at Time International in 1984. Working with Daniel Reginiano, he helped grow the business into a leading Maltese distributor and retailer, and in 2006 he led the management buyout that created Hudson Holdings. His work introduced Nike to Malta in 1986 and extended its distribution across 36 countries in Africa, alongside a wider portfolio of international sport and fashion brands including Converse, H&M, Mango, Kiabi, Sports Direct, Crocs, Columbia, Tommy Hilfiger, Urban Jungle, EA7 and Armani Exchange. These milestones reflect a long-term approach: combine trusted partnerships with local knowledge, then build the relationships needed to turn ambitious ideas into reality.

Hudson's more recent chapters include expanding Nike's on-the-ground presence in Africa with stores in Nigeria and Kenya, bringing H&M to Morocco and Malta and Kiabi to Cyprus and Greece, and launching Sports Direct in Malta and Kenya. In 2025, Frasers Group acquired a 41.98% shareholding in Hudson, marking a significant stage in the company's development and creating new opportunities for its retail and wholesale operations.

Borg is known for crediting colleagues and partners, presenting growth as a collective effort rather than an individual accomplishment. Creativity is another part of his identity: over the past five years, his pop art and mixed-media exhibitions have connected his artistic interests with fundraising for the Hudson Foundation, which supports children, abandoned animals and the environment.

That combination of commercial ambition, imagination, teamwork and giving back is a defining thread in his story.

Panel speakers to be announced.
